  1. hello, i’m not sure you will see this but i just got a kitten yesterday. i own a border collie mix who is about 8 years old, she’s very chill and not very energetic, but i own a 1 year old dachshund who is extremely playful and energetic, she’s very clingy and loves attention. these past 48 hours of having the kitten (who is about 8 weeks old) i’ve had many breakdowns because i worry that i made the wrong decision because the dogs aren’t getting used to the cat. i know it’s very early and i am just freaking out, but i worry that they won’t adapt to the new member of the family and the cat will be uncomfortable living with us. im 15 and my family has only owned dogs, the only reason we got this cat is because i begged my mom bc this cat was rescued and in desperate need of a home. i keep changing my mind about how i feel and want to give her away but then i imagine a future with 2 happy dogs and a cat who get along well. i have no problem feeding the kitty and cleaning her litter, im just worried about my dogs with the cat (mainly my dachshund). my friends are telling me to calm down because being a first time cat owner is overwhelming. in the meantime, the kitty is staying in my room and we tried to get the dogs to encounter but it didn’t go very well but not terribly. my mom is being very supportive and reassuring me, reminding me that this is new and that it will take time. i think cats are great and since i grew up with dogs i love them, but with a young kitty i feel like it’s harder. please let me know what i should do. my dogs fight sometimes but only if they annoy each other, so hopefully nothing goes wrong with the cat. ill come back to update if we decide to stay with her or not, im just having a lot of anxiety and second thoughts since this is so new to me.

  2. Something that I noticed is that bigger dogs actually get along a lot better with cats than little dogs do. I don’t know why but whenever my family had a mastiff and a cat the cat was always the dominant one in the relationship.

  3. would also recommend keeping the animals separate when leaving the house in the beginning. Even if they get along, they may play and inadvertently hurt each other and you won’t be there to intervene.

  4. We have 3 dogs, 2 of which are jealous alphas. The 3rd is the dumbest dog I’ve ever seen. Two large kittens that just joined us. All are outdoor pets. Hard to do your process. We cage (or pen) each set one group always so they see each other. I’ll try some scent tricks with towels. The alphas have killed strays coming on our property looking for food. This will be difficult as the alphas are 7 years old.

  5. We just got a cat from petsmart it is a Russian Blue cat this helped a lot thank you we have 2 dogs and 1 cat
