  1. For our cats, we stopped the wet food speed eating by turning it into a soup. The added water slowed them right down, but they still get the flavor/taste. As an added bonus we know they’re getting a good amount of water in their diet as well.

  2. I bought a battery operated rocking ball treat feeder that spins and wobbles. It has a long stem with a fuzzy bumble bee toy with plastic wings on the top and a laser light that shines through the hole on the side of the ball where the treats are tossed out as it spins and wobbles around the room. It’s sort of okay but if the treats are too small the toy is worthless. Also the spin is a bit faster for older, slower cats and those plastic wings, though light weight, spinning so fast might hurt. My boy likes the random on-off laser. But I only put in a few treats at a time so as not to over feed, per our vet’s instructions on his weight. I don’t recommend that toy. I recently got him the zoom ball and he hates it! It’s too fast and actually hits hard when it runs into you (ask me how I know). It’s being sold on a certain site as wonderful for frisky cats and kittens, and while that might be true for some, I think it a bit dangerous. So I tried it with two neighbors’ tiny dogs ( chihuahua mix and another similar breed) and they went NUTS playing with it!! They’re both very active, playful, FAST dogs who were able to chase and catch it without harm. It’s big enough that they can’t swallow it, also.
Most recently I finally found something my kitty is able to use but with some frustration on both our parts. It’s a tunnel type puzzle feeder made for cats. BUT…the base width from the tunnels where he’d pull the treats onto is very narrow. So he has difficulty fitting his face in to get at the treat. If you have a flat face cat forget it. He has learned that it’s okay to drag the treats over the raised lip of the base and drop it on the floor to eat. I wrote to the company I bought it from and made a design suggestion based on my own experience as a woodworker furniture builder who makes fold up/transforming furniture to suit my needs as a physically disabled person.
Just because the average cat has a ā€œsmallā€ face doesn’t mean they can fit what the company designs dictate as ā€œaverageā€. The majority of cat trees cannot handle the average sized cat. At least not many of the ones I’ve researched lately. The maximum weight capacity is for kittens…who grow up to be full grown cats and will need to have their furniture hold them. The pieces being made for our cats are low quality and outrageously expensive.
Thank you for your input and kind advice. Cheers and God bless!

  3. My indoor cat was getting lazy until I started using puzzle feeders. She actually eats slower now too, which my vet said helps with digestion. Definitely worth trying if your cat seems bored.
