I’ve been trying to keep my dog in the crate since I got him at 4 – 5 months old he is close to 10 at the moment. No matter how many games , frozen kongs , toys he doesn’t like it. I throw toys in he goes in and takes it out, I close the door he is not calm at all panting the whole time, whining crying and even though he has an accident or 2 sometimes , I think he purposefully pees in the crate so that he gets out of it. I’ve been having him out of the crate at night, he is not doing any damage to the house and furniture but the issue is I want him crated because he gets on the couch and sleeps there, and the other night he pissed in his sleep (I think), I’m trying to avoid that from happening if it a repeating occurrence, I’d rather clean the crate than the couch. Any suggestions on what else I could try ? I am kind of at my wit’s end with the crate.
But how does that work at night. Do you then also give some chew toy for the dog to fall asleep? I so desperately want our dog to sleep in the crate. But so far it’s misery. And right now we take turns sleeping with the dog in the living room because he doesn’t want to be all by himself, and if we do he starts demolishing things. But I somehow thought it’s better to not give your dog food before bedtime. But I wouldn’t mind being wrong on that and giving the dogs something to chew on before bedtime. I hope you can reply who to do this thing for the night.
